Bermuda market
The Bermuda insurance and reinsurance market has evolved rapidly, beginning with the growth of the captive sector in the 1970's. In the late 1980's the excess liability insurance market was established, followed by the creation of a number of property catastrophe reinsurers in the early 1990's.
The new millennium witnessed two further waves of capital formation in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and severe hurricane activity in 2004/5.
Bermuda is now firmly established as a key participant in global insurance and reinsurance markets.
